Founded in 1804, Kazan Federal University, located in the Volga Region, stands as the 10th oldest university and the 3rd imperial university in Russia, established under the reign of Emperor Alexander I. Formerly known as Kazan Imperial University, it has evolved into a prestigious institution with decades of rich academic heritage. Kazan Federal University is now recognized as one of the leading universities in Russia. In the QS World University Rankings, it secured the 396th position and, in 2023, it proudly found its place in the list of top 5 universities as per the Russia National Inventiveness Ranking.

 

This prestigious institution has been recognized by various international bodies including the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), the National Medical Council (NMC), the Foundation for Advancement for International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), among others. 

About the University 

Established in 1804 by the Russian emperor Alexender I, Kazan Federal University is one of the leading institutions in the Volga Region, Russia. It is an acknowledged center of academic excellence for actively participating in various research activities, with international academic institutions. Since its inception in 1804, more than 49,000 students including 10,500 international students have completed their medical education at KFU.

Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies 

Kazan’s Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies is among the strongest centers in Russia in the field of studying hydrocarbon deposits, core material, and fluids hosted by rocks. The institute is constantly adopting new technologies for analyzing complex hydrocarbon constructions. They train students in the field of Geology, and Geochemistry of Fossil Fuels, engineering geology, geophysics, oil and gas business. The Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies is also equipped with a 3D Geo Center, a multi-functional center for geological and hydrodynamic modeling. 

 Institute of Fundamental Science and Biology 

The Institute of Fundamental Science and Biology strives to create and implement the latest research and development activities. They engage students in comprehensive research and training in the fields of medical biochemistry, medical biophysics, medical cybernetics, general medicine, dentistry, and others. It offers unique opportunities to its students to undergo internships in various regions of Russia, and scientific centers around the world. 

Alexander Butlerov Institute of Chemistry 

Alexander Butlerov Institute of Chemistry was established in the year 2023 after merging the Institute of Chemistry with the A.M. Butlerov Research Institute, hence, the institute was named after A.M. Butlerov. This institute includes 7 departments and 8 research departments. It is one of the oldest scientific and research institutes in the Russian Federation. With 35 highly skilled professionals and 70 candidates in Science, this institute trains students in analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, etc. 

Nikolai Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics 

This is one of the oldest institutes of the university training specialist in the field of mathematics and mechanics since the founding of the university. This institute comprises of six departments of mathematics, two departments of mechanics, and a department of educational technologies. To provide their students with hands-on learning experience, the institute is well equipped with advanced laboratories as well. The Nikolai Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics offers a pragmatic approach and an immersive learning experience to their students under the guidance of tailored experts, and highly skilled faculty. 

Institute of Computational Mathematics and Information Technology 

This institute was established in 1978, including 8 departments. The Institute of Computational Mathematics and Information Technology provides comprehensive training to its students in various areas of fundamental mathematics and computer science. The institute is also equipped with 7 research laboratories and the Center for Preparation for Programming Olympiad. The institute also maintains its close relationship with leading Russian and Foreign IT companies, as well as with leading research institutes and universities to conduct various research programs and exhibitions. 

Institute of Information Technology and Intelligent Systems 

The Institute of Computational Mathematics and Information Technology was established in the year 2011 with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Federal University, and market leaders in the Information Technology Industry. The students of this prominent institution get a golden opportunity in their second year of the program to pursue year-round internships in leading IT companies and work on research and development projects with representatives of these IT businesses. IITIS engages students in various research and development programs in the areas of intelligent robotics, data mining, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies. 

Institute of Management, Economics and Finance 

With more than 200 years of experience, the Institute of Management, economics, and Finance is one of the largest institutes in the university. Being one of the largest and oldest institutions of the university, the Institute of Management, Economics, and Finance is equipped with advanced infrastructure and world-class facilities. They train their students in the areas of economics, management, state and municipal administration, and tourism. 

Institute of International Relations 

The Institute of International Relations existed since the inception of the university. Presently, more than 6,000 students, including over 1,000 international students are currently enrolled in the institute. Three departments in this institute train students in the areas of International Relations, Oriental Studies, etc. following a multi-disciplinary course structure throughout their studies. The institute also conducts various guest lectures in collaboration with renowned scientists from all over the world to ignite the innovative mindset of the students. The main goal of this institute is to prepare a creative personality and a successful professional.

Leo Tolstoy Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communications

This esteemed institute has its origins in the Department of Verbal Sciences of Imperial Kazan University. Presently, it hosts a diverse student body, with approximately 3,000 students enrolled, including over 600 international students. The Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication is dedicated to training specialists in the fields of Russian philology, foreign languages, literature, design, and music.

Institute of Psychology and Education 

The Institute of Psychology and Education stands as a testament to collaborative excellence, established through the concerted endeavors of esteemed professors and scientists from two eminent educational institutions: Kazan State University and Kazan State Pedagogical Institute. The institute comprises eight distinguished departments, each dedicated to imparting a comprehensive array of courses to its discerning student body. The institute is dedicated to nurturing future scholars and professionals in psychology and education while maintaining high academic standards.

Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communication 

The Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communication was formed by combining the Faculty of Philosophy and the Institute of Social Sciences and Mass Communication in the year 2014. This institute provides comprehensive training to its students in the fields of philosophy, religious studies, theology, sociology, political science, journalism, etc. 

Admission Process 

Any student looking to pursue their higher education at Kazan Federal University must go through the following steps: 

 

Step 1 Fill up the admission form, which is usually available online on the official website of the university. 

 

Step 2 Submit all the required documents with the application form 

 

Step 3 Wait for the invitation letter from the university 

 

Step 4 After receiving the invitation letter from the university, the student must contact the Russian embassy of his/her country of residence for a visa application 

 

Step 5 Clear all the outstanding dues including the university’s tuition fee, cost of accommodation, and other charges 

 

Step 6 Make all the necessary arrangements and travel to Russia. You are all set to join the university 

Eligibility Criteria 

In order to get admission into the Kazan Federal University, the student must fulfill the following conditions: 

  • Age Requirements: Students must be of the age of 17 as on or before 31 December of the admission year 

  • Academic Requirements: Students must have cleared class 12 with a minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. 

 

Note: All the students are required to qualify for the university’s entrance exam so as to secure their seats in the university.

  1. Class 10 mark sheet and passing certificate 

  2. Class 12 mark sheet and passing certificate 

  3. Medical certificate with HIV report 

  4. Valid I’d proof

Amenities and Infrastructure 

Kazan Federal University has stood as the epitome of quality education for the past 200 years, the university is equipped with modern facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. This institute offers a wide array of courses, including 339 bachelor’s courses, around 259 master’s degree programs, 20 specialty courses, and 45 other programs. KFU stands as the national research center with more than 30 well-equipped laboratories. To facilitate students to perform extensive research in medicine, the university has established the Medical Simulation Center which provides a comprehensive hands-on learning experience to its students. To broaden the academic horizons of its students, Kazan Federal University has set up Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library boasting a collection of over 5,000,000 academic journals, books, and publications including 150,000 unique and old volumes and 3,000 collections of rare books.
